Ellen Burke appointed to NSBS Council for Central District

Ellen Burke is a member of Patterson Law’s litigation group and is based in New Glasgow, where her practice focuses on criminal litigation and family court matters.

Ellen joined Council in July 2016, stepping up to fill a seat left vacant when Frank E. DeMont QC became the Society’s Second Vice-President. Called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2009, Ellen received her law degree from Dalhousie University. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the investment committee of Northern Opportunities Business Limited, which is part of CBDC. She also contributes to a monthly column in the Pictou County Advocate.

Community service priorities include Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada – Ellen volunteers on its Board of Directors and was a proud “Big Sister” for a number of years. She is a current member of the Rotary Club of New Glasgow, Vice-President of the Truro Bible Hill Millbrook Salmon River Provincial Liberal Association and Secretary of the Cumberland Federal Liberal Riding Association. She also served in the past as a board member for Central Nova Women’s Centre and as a member of the Truro and District Chamber of Commerce.
