Chambers and Partners Highly Ranks Patterson Law 2019

Patterson Law is pleased to announce that the firm, and three of its partners, have been recognized among Atlantic Canada’s leading lawyers in the 2019 edition of Chambers Canada. Enjoy yourself with the game bonanza. Two lawyers from the firm’s Corporate/Commercial group, George White and Kate Harris, are recognized, along with Dennis James of Patterson Law’s Commercial Litigation group.

In addition to its individual Chambers Canada honors, the guide, which is widely recognized as producing the nation’s most authoritative and thoroughly-researched legal industry rankings, named Patterson Law’s Corporate/Commercial Group as one of Atlantic Canada’s best. Chambers Canada noted that Patterson Law is known for being a “highly regarded Nova Scotia firm offering extensive experience in banking and finance, M&A, securities, corporate governance and insolvency. Further areas of expertise include commercial and residential real estate development, taxation matters for both corporations and individuals, and trusts and succession planning.” It was also recognized as being able to provide “businesses with support in commercial litigation matters.” Identifying the firm’s strengths, Chambers noted the firm’s “expanding footprint in Halifax” and highlighted the team’s “impressive skill set and quality.”

Law firms and individual lawyers are ranked in bands from 1-6, with Band 1 being the best. The qualities on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client. This year our Corporate/Commercial group increased their ranking from Band 3 to Band 2, sharing that ranking with much larger regional firm Cox & Palmer, and Newfoundland/Labrador firm Benson Buffett. Only large regional firms McInnes Cooper and Stewart McKelvey ranked higher.

Kate Harris (Band 1) is singled out by market sources as a “highly skilled and sought-after lawyer” in the corporate commercial sphere. She is a recognised specialist in tax law, regularly handling corporate restructuring, estate planning and the establishment of non-profit organisations.

Dennis James (Band 1) of Patterson Law is a highly accomplished advocate in the field, having argued cases at all levels of court in Nova Scotia and before regulatory bodies. In addition to his commercial practice, he has significant experience in municipal, employment, Aboriginal and health law. Market sources single him out as “well regarded in commercial and insurance litigation.”
