Gerard Tompkins has been providing senior legal counsel in the areas of corporate/commercial and taxation for over 30 years. Gerard has held numerous positions affiliated with the profession, including president of the Halifax Estate Planning Council and Chair of the Finance Committee of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors, and Treasurer of the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia. He has lectured at Dalhousie Law School and has been involved with many Atlantic Provinces Tax Seminars. Gerard has also been profiled for tax litigation, corporate tax and personal tax in various editions of the Canadian Lexpert Legal Directory.

Professional Experience
During 1976 - 1981, Gerard was employed with the Department of Justice - Canada, involved in a variety of income tax, customs and related issues, as well as issues relating to land acquisition, leasing, expropriation, etc. Currently, his practice involves tax litigation before the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court in civil disputes relating to income tax, GST and HST, defence representation in criminal income tax evasion and related litigation, professional negligence claims against lawyers and accountants, primarily relating to income tax issues, corporate and personal tax planning relating to estate planning, etc., and general business law, particularly relating to buying, selling and financing businesses, and advising owner-managed businesses.
