In the corporate/commercial and co-operative law areas, Joel advises clients in the acquisition and disposition of businesses, licensing, leasing, contracts, reorganizations, executive compensation, and shareholder dispute avoidance and resolution. Joel has particular interest in and knowledge of the forestry industry, where he helps clients to set up their businesses, make succession plans and collect unpaid bills. Joel also advises businesses and individuals with respect to bankruptcy and insolvency matters, helping to ensure compliance with insolvency legislation and providing guidance on the different mechanisms available to creditors and debtors to work through financial distress and collect debts. Prior to practicing law, Joel worked for a global retirement consulting firm in New York City. Joel articled with a national firm in Ottawa before returning to Truro, and was admitted to the Bars of Nova Scotia and Ontario in 2011.
